For what it is, this book is a generally pleasant read. A collection of short stories and poetry, this work primarily focuses on the mundanities and normalization of absurdity involved in working food service jobs, with a couple fantasy bits peppered in. The highlights of the collection are the recollections of stories patrons have told the speaker; she presents the dialogue very realistically, which successfully reflects the title and theme of the book. Terrifically angst-filled.I think that this book would mostly appeal to people who have never worked in the food industry, servers are likely pretty familiar already with stories of the like.
The pieces written by K. Tender were interesting and well spaced out. I'll give it to the author, I know from working with other writers, it can be hard to pace out short stories and poems together.
As with most self-published/promoted books, there are a couple minor errors that could have been caught, but oh well. I think this is a good start for a new author, and am interested in seeing how she grows and what she comes out with in the future.
I think the other reviews regarding this work as 'just like Bukowski' are being a little hyperbolic. That's okay though, really, only Bukowski is really like Bukowski. It's okay to be your own thing.

Estranged Behaviour The Underbelly of Society Tanita RossCady 9780692822500 Books Reviews
I love reading the short stories in this book to big groups of friends. It definitely adds to the party & sparks really interesting conversations. A great read, but much like Charles Bukowski's books, I really awesome book to share with people as well!
Tanita took me thru the whole range of emotions as she shared her journey with me. The writing is so raw....and wonderful. I felt kind of like you can when driving be a.horrible car wreck on the freeway...except here it's "Damn, do i want to read ANOTHER story right now, or just get on with my own life". Loved it.

My first thought when I obtained this little gem, was that it was going to be epic! I was not disappointed. The author is a good friend of mine and her beautiful unique soul and character was shining in every page. I read the book in one Saturday afternoon while I enjoyed a few adult beverages on my patio. I belly laughed and I had some moments of raw emotion. Her words along with Kilarney Tender's struck my heart in many ways. The long hours and ridiculous requests and expectations of the customer service industry can wear anyone thin. Making light of such tough moments is a gift and Tanita has it. I am beyond proud of her for her hard work and accomplishments. This book touches the heart and rubs the funny Bone!!!

Wow! Hilarious book, full of raw, dark humor. I loved everything about it. Definitely worth the read. I finished in one sitting, because once I started, I couldn't put it down. Awesome book! I'll be watching for more from this author.
This book is hilarious and at times sad and shocking. If you've ever worked in the service industry you know very well that people are indeed shocking... It is a super easy read, and I intend to read it multiple times because it is pure entertainment. The sad stories/poems are definitely relatable to anyone doing any job, but definitely hit home as I have been in the industry for almost 10 years. All in all I recommend this book to anyone looking for a really entertaining book to read. And since it is short stories and poems it's great for reading intermittently throughout the day. I hope there is more to come from this beautiful, badass female author.
I had the pleasure of chatting with Tanita, author of Estranged Behaviour, back in December. She told me about a book she was working on and how after 3 years it was almost completed. I told her I couldn't wait to check it out.
Well this week, the book finally got released and I got my copy delivered from and started reading it. And guess what? I couldn't put it down!!
If you work in the service industry (bartender, wait staff, cook, hostess) or want a taste of the craziness about this industry, then this book's for you! It's filled with dark humor and stories about working behind the bar and in the service industry . But after laughing at some of the stories (all I need to say is four words teleporting blood sucking midgets) I realized this book is so much more. This book is about the author's life and dreams and disappointments. Tanita takes us page by page on a roller coaster of emotions. It's a quick read that will have you questioning human nature and what we'll do to follow our dreams. Thanks Tanita for taking us on this crazy ride.
The first thing to say about this book is that it was deeply moving. The author did an amazing job of bringing your emotions right along with her while telling stories that seem to range from autobiographical to far flung. I finished the book in two sessions, but that was only because of prior commitments. I would have set down and read the whole book in one if I had time on my first encounter with the book.
Secondly, anyone who has waited tables or bar for any time with appreciate the situations presented in the book, maybe their fondest memories, or worst horrors, but they ring true.
The stories are interspersed with free form poetry that add to the experience, along with some overarching elements that blur the line with fact and fiction, or maybe a meta-awareness of consciousness. But that will be for each reader to find on their own.
The only problem with this book is that, just like visiting an old friend, the time will go to fast, and the visit will be too short.
